How to Get Bike Grease Out of Clothes

Bike grease is one of the most stubborn forms of stains you can get. If you’ve ever owned a bike, you know just how difficult it can be to get that smudge off your linen. And it doesn’t take much to get a grease stain; routine maintenance on your bike, a tire change or chain adjustment is just the kind of things that can leave you with a distasteful dirt mark on your t-shirt, jeans or cycling shirt. Fortunately, getting rid of those tough grease stains from your clothes is not entirely impossible. We have a number of essential grease removal tips that will interest you.

In this article, we’ll be covering the most effective techniques, so that you know exactly how to get bike grease out of clothes. Here are the 5 most effective ways I've found to eradicate even the most stubborn grease stains.

Dishwashing Liquid

Using a mixture of dishwashing liquid and clean water is one of the best ways to remove grease from your pants or shirt. The great thing about dishwashing liquid is that it contains no harmful chemicals. This means that your favorite clothes will not be harmed! In the end, dishwashing liquid is specifically designed to eliminate grease from foods. Bike grease isn’t that different. To remove grease stains using dishwashing liquid you’ll need to:

1 Apply some dishwashing liquid to the fresh stain
2 Use a toothbrush to rub the spot in a circular motion for a few minutes.
3 Repeat the process until the grease stain disappears.
4 Let the clothe rest for half an hour before putting them for a run in the washing machine
5 Wash it in a warm cycle

Using this method as soon as possible will increase your chances of removing grease stains completely.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is effective at removing bike grease stains for several reasons. Due to its alkaline nature, it can cut all types of grease, as well as grease stuck between fibers since it effervesces in water. It is also gentle on your hands and won't damage fabrics. To remove grease stains on clothes, prepare a mixture of baking soda and vegetable-based soap. Apply this mixture on the stain and gently brush the grease off. After that, rinse it off with warm water and let it air-dry.

Biological Laundry Detergent

If the grease is fresh or dry, this method is best suited for removing it from synthetic fabrics. Follow the process below:

Step 1: The first step is to apply a small amount of washing powder to the grease stain and gently rub it in with a dosing ball under the grease stain. Allow it to sit for about five to fifteen minutes.

Step 2: Rinse the stain with cold water - Place the stained garment under a tap and let the cold water run through the back of the stain to the front so that the grease is eliminated.

Step 3: Wash the piece of clothing as you would during your regular laundry and remember to consider the washing guidelines on the care label. Allow the garment to dry in the air.

The grease removal process is not recommended for delicate fabrics such as silk or wool. Always check the care label to identify the fabric on stained clothes. If you are unsure, consult a professional dry cleaner; especially if the method of washing is restricted to dry cleaning.

Shampoo or Bar soap

If you have a fresh stain on your clothes, a bar soap or shampoo would be ideal. The following steps are to be followed when cleaning your cloth with bar soap or shampoo.

Step 1: Use the bar soap or shampoo to cover the spot.
Then apply the shampoo or rub the bar soap on the grease stains. Then soak the clothes in water or ammonia. Rub the soap on the stain until you see foam. Laundry bars are excellent for removing grease stains.

Step 2: Rinse the fabric.
Mix vinegar with water in a 1:2 ratio. The vinegar will react with soap and remove all the alkalinity. After dipping the stained part into the mix, the soap and stain will be removed.

Step 3: Wash the cloth.
Once the soap and the stain are out, wash the fabric using laundry detergent to eliminate the remaining stains. After that, you can let it dry.

White vinegar

White vinegar has some surprising properties. It is commonly used to deep clean the kitchen and bathroom since it is a mixture of acetic acid and water. When it comes to clothing, however, it has the potential to do much more than that. In fact, its acidic properties are excellent for removing bike grease stains. Both fresh and old stains can be treated with white vinegar. Here are 3 steps to maximize its effectiveness:

Put 2-3 drops of white vinegar on the dried stain
Moisten the area with a clean cloth
Put it straight into the washer on a warm cycle

If the stain is particularly tough, you can pair white vinegar with soap or dishwashing liquid to maximize the effectiveness of the vinegar's active agent.

Conclusion

This article will help you get rid of the toughest grease stains. If you don't maintain your bicycle properly, it can get very greasy. Your clothes might not be able to be fully washed in some cases. For this reason, you should never wear your favorite trousers on a bike. The bike grease stain removal process also differs greatly depending on the type of clothing you're trying to clean. It will be much easier to remove bike grease from synthetic fabrics since they are more resistant and can be washed at 95°C and above. Happy riding!
